About Celebration of Mind Celebration of Mind (CoM) uses puzzles, games, and magic to delight, instruct, and bring people together in a spirit of fun, both at annual gatherings and as a year-round repository of resources. As Martin Gardner said, you can learn more when you’re in a state of entrancement, and that’s our guiding principle. On and around October 21 every year, Celebration of Mind events all over the world share the legacy and many interests of this prolific, accessible American writer, who over a 50-year period introduced general audiences to many fascinating topics in mathematics and science. In the process we continue to create and collect resources that inspire new generations to explore a wide range of intellectual pursuits, and their intersections. History of CoM After Gardner’s passing in 2010, his friends and readers began the tradition of hosting annual events on or around his birthday, October 21. Since then there have been hundreds of Celebrations from Helsinki to Antarctica, Bombay to Silicon Valley, sharing in Gardner’s many interests with such intriguing activities as math puzzles, logic puzzles, hexaflexagons and Möbius strips, magic and card tricks, and visual paradoxes. Anyone who loves puzzles, math, Lewis Carroll, critical thinking, and/or intellectual challenges is invited to participate in an event in their area, or to consider hosting an event of their own. The Celebration of Mind site offers resources for finding a local event, as well as plenty of activities for potential hosts as well as teachers, parents, and learners. Gathering 4 Gardner, Inc. Gathering 4 Gardner (G4G) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that works to honor the achievements of Martin Gardner by promoting the lucid exposition of new and accessible ideas in recreational mathematics, magic, puzzles, and philosophy, as well as encouraging further creative work in these areas by enthusiasts of all ages. Celebration of Mind is a Gathering 4 Gardner event.
